Trampled By Turtles (featuring Scout Dunbar)

LISTENING TO: Trampled By Turtles - Burlesque Desert Window

I'm so excited for my friend Scout Dunbar and her newest collaboration. Trampled By Turtles are a fantastic band, and their new album Alpenglow is not only a great listen, but it has some amazing cover art as designed by Scout. Definitely go give the album a spin, and be sure to check out Scout's new work either on her website or her instagram - you won't regret it.

2016

For those who don't know, my father's long battle with cancer ended just a few months ago. Losing my dad has brought about a lot of change in my life in such a short amount of time. Although any type of change is scary, I can't help but think these last few weeks have been his way of kicking my ass into gear, so to speak.

I have gotten comfortable being where I am, rather than searching out for where I need to be, what I need to be doing, accomplishing. Although I'm not unhappy, I have been given a very unique opportunity. Not to sound cliche, but it seems death really does seem to put things in perspective. Change is good, and has been coming for me for a while, even if everything is just now coming into focus.

First things first! I'm in the process of overhauling a whole bunch of galleries on the website. Although my art has been overshadowed by life (especially in the last year), I have been working on things progressively, albeit in the background. As such, things are starting to come back into the forefront. I've got a backlog of new film just sitting in my room, waiting to be digitized and shared with the world, and I've also got a new print/design series that's been cogitating for the last few months, too. Both of these projects should be appearing in the next three months or so, and yes, I'm giving people permission to yell at me if they don't appear.

While I usually loathe the practice of giving myself a new years resolution (seeing as I may sometimes be known for falling into a thought just as quickly as I fall out of it, haha), I can't help but see the beginning of this year as a gift.

So here's to 2016, and to change, and to opportunity. And always, to Joe.

Mother/Daughter Art Exhibit - Linna Dolph and Scout Dunbar

I can't even begin to tell you how psyched I am to see this show in person. My good friend Scout Dunbar is doing an amazing show up in Ithaca with her mom, Linna Dolph, up in Ithaca, NY right now and it's going to be absoutely amazing.

photo courtesy of Scout DunbarScout has been talking about doing a combination show with her mom for years, and it's already getting rave reviews. The show opens Friday, March 7th at 7pm at the CAP Art Space at the Ithaca Commons - if you're in the area, you should definitely stop by and check it out. I know I'm definitely going to be visiting :D

Finally!

Thank god for snow - that's all I can say :D

First things first - rrutledgeonline.tumblr.com is going to be updating the rest of this weekend with some photos and mixtapes after I resuscitated it from the unintentional coma I put it in during 2013. My bad. At least if you had been following miss-printed.tumblr.com, you got the craziness of my everyday mind ;P
Also, I finally fell through the rabbit hole and created a twitter account - check out my about me page to check out the links for not only that, but my instagram and pinterest accounts too :D

Other new things - both the Film Photography and Digital Photography galleries (both of the various year galleries, if you want specifics) have been updated to reflect work from the last year or so. The Music Series gallery, which I've had work ready to upload for ages, but just haven't had the time to (story of my life), also got a bit of a facelift. And finally, like I mentioned yesterday, I updated my links section as well.

Now that all of the basics are done, we're onto the big updates!!!

 Tiny Little Boxes | March 20, 2012, 3:09pm

If you've been following my updates around here at all, I've been talking about a print project I've been working on for just about forever (like here and here and most recently, here). Tiny Little Boxes is what comes from my original love of making art for my mixtapes, and combining it with the time based thought process behind The Book Project and The Calendar Project. I've seriously fallen in love with making these little snap shots of life, and I'm in the process of trying to figure out a way to display them in a way that makes the most sense. For right now, my first print trial has worked out pretty well and I've been giving away the first couple prints to friends and family. We'll see where it goes from there.

The other major update is my newest gallery, which will be displaying all of my blogging, marketing and promotional work that I've written or helped create. For me, everything comes back to a visual representation, and although the gallery is currently small (as in, only one thing so far), the twists and turns of my current employment ensure that, especially in 2014, it'll become a lot more interesting in the new year.

So, that's about it. I'm actually going to try and update this more than once or twice a year, and seeing as I'm currently three posts in to 2014, it's going well so far. Enjoy the winter storm, everyone!
